St. Bernard Parish Private Slab Removal Program to begin.
St. Bernard Parish Private Slab Removal Program to begin
Residents who own lots with slabs may apply for the free program
St. Bernard Parish Government will begin removing privately owned slabs from private property where the structure has been previously demolished. The work will consist of the removal and disposal of all concrete slab foundations and/or concrete flatwork. The work will also include fill, grading, sloping and compaction of low areas to promote proper drainage. This program will be at no cost to the owner(s) of the property.
The program is being funded with Community Development Block Grant Funds through the state Office of Community Development. It is being administered by the Louisiana Land Trust in a cooperative partnership with St. Bernard Parish Government. This $10,000,000 budget for the private slab removal was secured by State Commissioner of Administration Paul Rainwater, who when he was Louisiana Recovery Authority Director, secured at the request of St. Bernard Parish President Craig P. Taffaro, Jr.
“This is one of the last remaining activities to rid our parish of any remnants of Hurricane Katrina,” Taffaro said. “We are very grateful for the cooperation and support from the state for the funding and assistance in the administration of this effort.”
If you wish to participate in this program, you will need to provide proof of ownership and sign a Right of Entry form. If you have any questions concerning this program or wish to express your interest in participating, then please call 504-278-4238 or visit the St. Bernard Parish Government Complex at 8201 W. Judge Perez Dr. Chalmette, LA 70043. You may also visit www.sbpg.net and print the Right of Entry form from the forms section of our website.
Neighborhood bike riding
We are interested in starting up our Bike Riding again. It is a good time to think about losing some of those holiday pounds plus we will start getting into Spring weather again. It is good for the neighborhood by providing a patrolling presence on our streets. Please email or call Kenny Desselle at 504-278-7588 or by email at kdesselle@cox.net if you are interested in riding.
2011 membership dues are now due.
It is that time of year again to consider joining Lexington Place Civic Corporation. Click on the link on the bottom of this post for the membership form that you can fill out and mail in to LPCC. Our dues are only $50.00 per homeowner, no rentals please. We are also in need of Block Captains. Please consider representing your street. The duties of a block captain are to hand out flyers, encourage new neighbors to join, report any news on your street to the President, and attend our six meetings per year. If any of our current block captains will continue their service, please notify Nina Desselle at pisces3262@cox.net
We will walk around the neighborhood to hand out Membership forms. If anyone would like to help, please contact Debbie Methvin at debbie.methvin@capitalonebank.com.
Thanks.
Nina Desselle

We welcome our new officers:

Neighborhood Community Project Feb. 12 at 8am
Dear Neighborhood Leader,
I am excited to share a community project with you…one which impacts Judge Perez from Violet to Arabi! That means it effects many of our neighborhood entrances. And, it will impact our community’s curb appeal for years to come!
While 325 oak trees remain along Judge Perez since their original planting by the Laurent & Lagarde families in the 1970s, over 150 have been lost. Some were damaged by Katrina and some fell victim to disease.
Please join Parks & Parkways Commission and St. Bernard Community Foundation Neighborhood Initiatives in the re-planting of oak trees on Saturday, February 12 at 8:00am. You & members of your association are invited to participate.
We will gather at Christian Fellowship Church, 5816 E. Judge Perez Dr., Violet for a brief planting demonstration and assignments. Volunteers will work along Judge Perez Drive from Colonial Blvd in Violet to DeBouchel Blvd in Meraux. We will plant 50 trees in pre-dug holes. EASY….EASY!
Bring a shovel & a pair of gloves. We’ll celebrate with breakfast when we’re done.
Please RSVP by Feb. 9th. If you would like to help by providing a breakfast casserole, muffins or fresh fruit, please let me know that as well.
WE NEED YOU! (And, again March 12 to plant 100 trees from Meraux to Arabi!)
Thanks so much,
Polly Campbell

August garden of the month
Lexington Place Civic Corporation is pleased to announce Johnny and Susan Melancon of 4205 E. Genie St. as the neighborhood’s August Garden of the Month. The Melancons are members of the association who, in addition to maintaining a beautiful yard, also assist in maintaining portions of the median on De Bouchel Blvd. Johnny often trims around the Bradford pear trees and has participated in many tree planting activities. Good neighbors like the Melancons make Lexington a great neighborhood!
